Build Fire on a Grate or on Floor of Stove - Hearth.com Forums
Just wondering what you guys consider the proper way of building a fire. Do you use a grate to lay your logs on top of, or do you just lay them on the floor of the stove and burn from there?
How to start a fire in a Hearthstone stove! - Hearth.com Forums
-DO NOT close stove door until fire is really happily burning about 150 to 200 degrees Notes: small dry out fires at the start of the season are important - after you have ash build up from multiple fires be sure to use a stick to clear an air route under where your paper knots go AND TO THE FRESH AIR INTAKE AT FRONT OF STOVE
How to Build a 2-Story Masonry Fireplace/Chimney
If I were to build from scratch I would build a two flue chimney. One flue for a stove and a second for a fireplace, preferably inside the house with the mass exposed. Masonry behind a wood stove will absorb and give off alot of heat. I love my fireplace. Unfortunately it is an ouside chimney but is very well built and draws well.
Burning fire hotter to prevent creosote build up
Of course dry wood certainly helps, but if the air is choked down or you're burning too cool for secondary or catalytic combustion, then creosote can still build up. The short answer is: yes, burning hotter does help prevent creosote build-up.
Lining a fire pit with sheet metal | Hearth.com Forums Home
I want to build a fire pit with concrete blocks from Lowes. They sell a kit for $200 that includes 3 rows of pavers and a metal (black paint coated) fire...
Too much ash in burn pot? | Hearth.com Forums Home
Take the Harman tool scrape it under the fire toward the auger. And pull it back out. Now use the tool to take off that excess ash build up. Give a couple of light taps on the burn pot to shake ash down and off the igniter. Close the door, in seconds the flame will re establish. This takes me all of 15 seconds and was instructed to me by my dealer.
New member hello, and questions on outdoor fireplace build
Looking at about a 20x24 concrete slab with a 'timber-frame style' build for a covered roof, open on all sides. I would like a wood burning fireplace on one end, I'm thinking a 48" or larger fireplace. My thought is to do a masonry build with cinder blocks, fire brick liner, and stone or fake stone exterior for looks.
Starting and Maintaining a Hand-Fired Coal Stove
One of the great benefits of burning coal is, in most cases, you will be able to keep the fire burning all season with alot less work. Just maintain it a couple of times a day. Initial start-up will take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on how familiar you are with starting a coal fire and your stove.
Preventing Dirty Glass | Hearth.com Forums Home
The worst build up occurs when the fire is dying down. Does it help to rake the coals towards the front? Towards the back? I've tried opening the door a crack when the fire is almost out, but of course that means that more of my heated air is going to go up the chimney.
How to build fireplace damper | Hearth.com Forums Home
Hello I am 15 and wanting to build a fire place where the heat, heats pipes, and forced air goes thru them. (Very good heater) to heat my shop. I want to make a damper for the fireplace to let the fire be hotter or cooler. And I am having trouble thinking about how to make it, the fireplace...
